The asterism known as the Pleiades gets its name in English-speaking countries from Greek mythology. The pattern of stars are named after the seven daughters of the Titan Atlas, leader of the Titans, and the Oceanid Pleione, the protectress of sailors. During the Bronze age, it was the heliacal rising of the Sisters in the sky that marked the beginning of the sailing season. Homer writes of how Odysseus used the Sisters to help navigate his way home during his trials in Book 5. The Sisters also marked the beginning of the agricultural season, opening the way to safe sailing and good planting.

Although the name we use is Greek, this asterism has been important for nearly every society of humans on Earth. Even in Neolithic times the Sisters had importance, as shown by their inclusion in cave paintings in both Lascaux and La Tete-du-Lion. Regardless of where people have lived on Earth, they have looked to this cluster of stars as an important marker to help direct their destiny in this World, and possibly the Worlds beyond. They are guardians of time and fate, and guides that can lead you to safety.

Our hope is that the Seven Sisters help you to find the place where you belong, the place of safety that you call home, whether that be with us or elsewhere in this beautiful world we all share.
